Audition Requirements (by instrument)
Keyboard: Two standard jazz or popular songs of different styles
Guitar: Two standard jazz or popular songs, melody and chords
Winds: Studies in phrasing and general technique. Two standard jazz or popular songs
Bass: Bass line for two standard jazz or popular songs
Voice: Two songs of different styles from the standard jazz, popular, or show repertoire demonstrating phrasing, technique, and pitch control
Percussion: Basic drum set technique plus the 13 standard rudiments. Snare drum reading in 2/4, 3/4, 4/4, 2/2, and 6/8
All pitched instrument applicants should be prepared to play all major and minor scales, and read from a lead sheet. All music and recording arts applicants must complete a theory and ear evaluation assessment.

Video/DVD Audition Requirements
We encourage Diploma School applicants from outside the region to audition and interview at our Hartford, Connecticut campus. Distance may prevent this. In lieu of coming to Hartford applicants may submit an audition video/DVD as outlined below for each department.Music and Recording Arts:
1) The applicant must submit a videotape or DVD of him/herself performing 2 songs as described in the audition requirements in the Hartford Conservatory catalog.
2) The Music Theory assessment will be mailed to the applicant. It must be completed and returned to us as soon as possible.
