Rhythm, Rattles and Drums

Learn about and play the fascinating rhythms of the world - from the Middle East to Africa to South American and more. Invent your own rhythm on your favorite percussion instrument.

Singing Songs Unplugged

Sing folk songs from around the world and learn when and how they began. Join in other important types of song: gospel, rounds, pop and more.

Write Your Own Song

Now is your change to write your own song. Learn and experience the different steps of songwriting.

Ensembles

Strings, Brass and Winds: Do you already play an instrument? Bring it along and join a group to play, create, improvise and have fun! Recorders: What a great and easy way to learn how to read notes on this versatile instrument. Enjoy making music with friends. We will provide the recorder.

Record Your Own Music

For a special musical experience, record your music in the Conservatory's recording arts lab.

THEATRE ACTIVITIES

From Script to Showcase

Learn how actors use their voices, bodies and imagination to create characters. You'll play improv and theater games, act out scenes, and try your hand and writing a few, too.

Collaboarting with the Hartford Children's Theatre, students will participate in workshops throughout the program that are designed to enhance the theater experience.

DANCE ACTIVITIES.

Street Dances and All That Jazz

Come celebrate dances with roots in the life of tribes, clans, and urban streets. Enjoy Hip-Hop, Tap, Rap, Break-Dancing and more.

Folk Dances of the World

Each culture around the world has it's distinctive dance forms and costumes. Explore what is similar and what is different in dances from Europe, Africa, North and South America and Asia.

Connecting the Arts

Enjoy exploring how the performing arts relate to the visual arts as seen in architecture, sculpture, paintings and landscapes. What about a scavenger hunt in our historic campus buildings? Let's walk around our Asylum Hill neighborhood and take field trips to other sites revealing our arts-rich city.

Movies, Theatre, Music and Songs

Listen to music and learn about famous composers: Who they are, why they are famous, and what their innovation and creativity have contributed to the world of music.
